What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an invisible way to straighten the teeth, without the requirement of metal braces. The Invisalign system uses a series of removable devices known as aligners. These aligners straighten the teeth over time, just like metal braces do. Invisalign has been proven to be highly effective in clinical research trials, and in orthodontic and dental practices across the United States. Dr. Garcia has provided Invisalign treatment to many happy patients.
Who is a good Invisalign candidate?
People who have mild to moderate teeth alignment issues may be good candidates for Invisalign. Both teens and adults can wear Invisalign with great success. Candidates should be fully committed to the Invisalign treatment plan for best results. If the aligners aren't worn as often as they should be, it can take longer to get the desired results.
How does a patient prepare for Invisalign treatment?
First, patients must visit Dr. Garcia of Smiles By Design to assess their suitability for Invisalign treatment. Most people with mild to moderate teeth alignment problems can be good candidates for Invisalign teeth straightening. Molds of the patient's mouth are created next, and 3-D computer imaging is also used to create a highly detailed model of the patient's mouth. After that, the patient will make a future appointment to have their new aligners fitted and to have the treatment process explained in detail.
How does Invisalign treatment work?
Dr. Garcia will check the fit of the Invisalign aligners and can make any adjustments necessary at that time. The patient will then return home with several sets of aligners. The aligners are changed out every 2 weeks. Patients can only remove the aligners to eat, drink, brush, and floss. They should be worn an average of 22 hours a day for the optimal results. After about 6 weeks, the patient returns to Smiles By Design so their progress can be monitored. Appointments then continue around every 6 weeks until treatment is complete.
How long does Invisalign treatment take?
It depends on the individual. Most people wear Invisalign for 9-15 months total. The average number of aligners used during treatment is 18-30.
